The Laxmi Vilas Palace was built in the year 1887 as a private residence for Raja Raghunath Singh, the younger brother of the Maharaja Ram Singh, the ruler of Bharatpur. The palace was earlier called Raghunath Niwas, but the locals have nicknamed it as Kakaji ki Kothi. In 1994 this palace was converted into a heritage hotel.
